Peter Schmiedel’s practice is devoted to the representation of disabled adults in guardianship proceedings, with a special emphasis on financial exploitation cases and general probate litigation.

He is regularly appointed guardian ad litem by judges to review settlements and personal injury actions on behalf of minors and disabled adults.

Peter also represents clients in general litigation in both federal and state court, as well as in the appellate court.

He regularly speaks to the Chicago Bar Association on children’s rights and guardianship matters at the state and federal level and also interprets the implications of recent related decisions.

Earlier in his career, Peter was the supervising attorney at the Cook County Public Guardian’s Office, where he headed a special litigation unit that initiated lawsuits on behalf of abused children and was a deputy public guardian in charge of the disabled adult division.
