As part of the Workplace Transparency Act, which was signed into law by Governor Pritzker earlier this year, all Illinois employers are required to provide sexual harassment training for employees beginning January 1, 2020. In addition to mandated training which will conform to a model being developed by the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Act also redefines ‘harassment’ as ‘unwelcome conduct’ which ‘has purpose or effect of substantially interfering with the individual’s work performance or creating an intimidating, hostile, or offensive workplace environment.’ Restaurants and bars will have specialized training models for their employees. If you are an employer, make sure you offer this training to your employees.
